Storm Darragh!!!

Facing Storm Darragh: A Private Chef’s Event at Cothelstone Manor

This weekend, I had a private dining event at the stunning Cothelstone Manor in Somerset, near Taunton. The historic manor, nestled at the foot of the Quantocks, was the perfect backdrop for an intimate evening. However, Storm Darragh had other ideas, bringing strong winds, heavy rain and a power cut.

The Setup

The evening was planned to be an elegant and seamless private dining experience, complete with a seasonal, locally inspired menu. The guests were ready to settle in for an evening of great food and good company, but just as the storm picked up outside, the lights went out.

Luckily the host managed to make us aware of the power cut so that we could prepare a plan for the evening. Power outages during a private dining event is a chef’s nightmare, but I’ve learned over the years that flexibility is key. With no time to dwell, I turned to Plan B, that and I seem to be very much at home in amongst the chaos during such goings on!

Adapting to the Storm

The dining room was transformed into a romantic, glowing setting with the help of candles and the sound of the wind outside. While unplanned, the atmosphere was unexpectedly magical. The guests embraced the situation with good humor, and their compliments on the food and experience were a reminder of why I love being a private chef in Somerset.

Despite the storm and the unexpected challenges, the evening was a success. Cothelstone Manor, with its timeless charm, proved to be the perfect setting for such an event, even during a power outage.
