Seasonal Ingredients: Norwegian Skrei
Discovering Skrei: Norway’s Premier Cod
Skrei, often called the "King of Cod," is a migratory fish from Norway that travels thousands of miles to spawn in the Lofoten Islands each winter. This journey gives it a firm texture and a clean, slightly sweet flavor, making it a highly prized seasonal delicacy from January to April.
What sets Skrei apart is its sustainability, caught at the peak of its life cycle, it’s carefully managed to ensure healthy fish stocks for the future.
During my time in Norway, I worked extensively with Skrei, using it in a range of dishes that showcased its fresh, natural qualities. It's a fish that’s become a staple in my approach to fish cookery, and now, as a local Somerset caterer and private chef, from January to April I’m excited to feature it in our private dining and dinner party menus at The Fig Pantry. Whether pan-seared, poached, or paired with seasonal ingredients, Skrei always makes for an exceptional dish.
If you’re planning a special dinner or seeking a unique addition to your private event, we invite you to experience the exquisite taste of Skrei with us at The Fig Pantry, your go-to local caterer in Somerset for unforgettable meals.
